The scholarship applications MUST be submitted by the affiliated club and not the individual swimmer WASA offers scholarships to the WASA members of affiliated clubs. These scholarships are available to members who have shown a commitment to swimming and have supported the association. For further information please contact your club organiser.

The Dick Gallie Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded annually to a deserving swimmer in memory of Dick’s contribution to WASA and School Swimming in NSW. Dick was a qualified referee who worked tirelessly at Warringah meets and mentored many of the current Technical officials. His greatest love was the school carnival season which he worked daily during January to April. Dick was also the treasurer of WASA for 16 years.
WASA thanks and recognises the generous support of Sydney North Schools Sports Association for their kind donation of the package of swimming products.
Scholarship Details
The scholarship will consist of a $300 grant from WASA and a range of swimming products, generously donated by the Combined High Schools Sports Association.
Dick Gallie was a NSW-qualified Referee who worked tirelessly at Warringah meets as well as training many new Technical Officials. He gave generously of his time to officiate at Metropolitan, State and National Championships.
The school carnival season was his greatest love; from late January to April he worked daily in the Sydney Metropolitan area.
He was Treasurer of WASA for 16 years and held several positions on various committees in WASA and with Swimming NSW.
He was also widely involved in community service and, for many years, was an elder in his church, a volunteer at the Stony Range Wildflower Reserve in Dee Why at the hydrotherapy pool at Mona Vale Hospital and was a Scout leader.
Rules
Each club may nominate one (1) swimmer
The swimmer must be registered with WASA
The club must have been affiliated with WASA on 1 January 2019
The swimmer must attain the age of ten (10) years in the period 1 July 2018 to 30 June 2019

Assessment Criteria
Involvement in swimming withing the swimmers local swimming club
Commitment to WASA events
Interest and involvement in community activities outside swimming
Attitude to swimming and general sportsmanship
No correspondence on the Award will be entered into.
The winner of the Scholarship for 2019 as chosen by the Selection Committee will be announced at an Association meeting. The award will be presented to him or her by the President of WASA or the NSW CHS Swimming Convener.

The WASA Winter Training Scholarship
As part of its commitment to providing ongoing support to its members, The Committee of the Warringah Amateur Swimming Association is offering up to four Training Scholarships throughout the winter swimming season (May to September) for coaching at an approved training provider of their choice.
The Scholarships, valued at $200 each, will enable up to four WASA swimmers to attend professionally-managed training sessions with qualified coaches at a centre of his or her choice during the 2019 winter terms.
This Scholarship is designed to maintain the momentum a swimmer has gained though the summer season and allow him or her to experience professional coaching.
Scholarship Details
One training session per week during the two winter terms at an approved training provider of their choice
Clubs are asked to nominate swimmers and, in 50 words or less, outline why they consider their candidate/s should be successful.
Clubs need to indicate how many attendances the candidate has completed at their club from October 2018 by the date of submission.
Clubs should also indicate how many WASA events the candidate has attended since September 2018.
No correspondence on the Scholarships will be entered into.
General Notes
There is no restriction on the number of swimmers a club may nominate for the WASA Scholarships.
Please use a separate form for each candidate.
A Dick Gallie Memorial Award candidate may also be nominated for a WASA Scholarship and vice versa. However, a candidate may only win one scholarship in any year.
WASA Scholarships are open to swimmers of any age.
They must be capable of participating in squad training of at least an hour’s duration, covering all strokes.

The Northern Beaches Council Entry Passes to the Warringah Aquatic Centre
Thanks to the generosity of the Northern Beaches Council, Warringah Amateur Swimming Association is pleased to offer up to five Scholarships throughout the 2019 winter swimming season (May to September), giving each swimmer entry to the Warringah Aquatic Centre to attend training sessions with Big Blue Swimming.
